DATA SCIENTIST

MISSION

We are seeking a Data Scientist with strong expertise in modeling, optimization, and a passion for leveraging data to improve the environmental performance of urban watersheds.
This role focuses on optimizing wastewater networks and treatment systems through advanced data analytics, physically based and data‑driven models, and state‑of‑the‑art optimization techniques.

RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Data Scientist, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and implementing advanced solutions for the water sector. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of IT experts, software developers, data scientists, engineers, and business professionals.
Your daily responsibilities will include:

  • Providing Data Science expertise to cross‑functional project teams.

  • Designing data science architectures for water‑related applications.

  • Applying data analytics techniques to large datasets (e.g., clustering, regression).

  • Developing data‑driven models using machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow).

  • Implementing optimization methods such as Genetic Algorithms (GA) and Linear / Mixed Integer Linear Programming (LP / MILP).

  • Communicating analytical insights clearly and concisely, both verbally and visually.

  • Participating in Agile ceremonies and coordinating technical project teams.

  • Creating and maintaining high‑quality technical and project documentation.

REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Proficiency in Python, with advanced experience using common data science libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, scikit‑learn).

  • Strong knowledge of machine‑learning tools such as TensorFlow and XGBoost.

  • Advanced understanding of optimization methods, including GA, LP, and MILP.

  • Familiarity with hydraulic modeling tools for wastewater networks (e.g., SWMM, ICM) or treatment systems (e.g., SUMO, WEST) is a plus.

  • Ability to lead and support Scrum processes using tools such as Jira.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Data Science, or a related field.

  • Master’s or PhD preferred.

  • Training in Data Science and Analytics.

  • Training in Python.

  • Hydraulic modelling training is a plus.

  • MLOps/DevOps training is a plus.

  • Proficient in English and Spanish.

  • German is a plus.

  • 5–10+ years of interdisciplinary research or project experience involving multiple engineering or scientific disciplines.

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in water‑related projects.
